Educational Resources
There are so many fantastic educational resources available on the web to help children with reading, writing and maths, but they're sometimes
hard to find. Although you will find links to various specific pages throughout the family learning website, the links below will help you
find the educational resources sites that are worth taking your time to explore.
Printable Worksheets and Activities
Sites covering multiple topics
SEN Teacher
This site is a fantastic free resource for parents and teachers. Although designed for SEN (Special Educational Needs), the resources
are exellent for all young learners. Click on 'Printables' to get access to loads of clearly illustrated, customisable
worksheets covering lots of different topics. Play around with the options for each one, and when you're happy with your choices, use
the 'Print sheet' button provided to print on A4 paper (don't use your browser print button, as it won't print properly). My
favourite is the UK coins fan (in the numeracy fans section). It's cleverly designed so children can make any amount up to £3.99
(you'll need to cut out the 'leaves', then punch a hole in the bottom and fasten either with a split pin type fastener or tie with
string. |

Kiz Club
High quality printable games, activities and worksheets. The Topics section has some lovely animal worksheets, with cut and
stick activities. In the ABCs section there's a lovely alphabet train printout that could be made into a sorting (alphabetical
order) or matching game (capitals to lower case letters) or could be coloured in to make an attractive frieze. There's lots more
to explore - this site is worth a bit of exploring. |

Mathsphere free resources
A great collection of free worksheets and printable games, divided into topics and year groups. The Flash worksheets
look slightly squashed on screen, but print out nicely, as long as you use the print button in the Flashplayer window, rather
than your browser's print button. You will also find access to PDF files with a choice of ready-to-print graph paper.

Super-Gran's Maths Games
Jenny (a.k.a. Super-Gran) has designed lots of super printable maths games. There are simple board games for pre-school
children to practice counting on and back, plus lots of board games, puzzles and activities for key stage 1 and 2 children.

Time for time
Create your own telling the time worksheets. Enter the times you want to use in the grid - they can be as easy or hard
as you like to suit your child's ability, e.g. 1:00, 5:30, 8:15, 15:35, 20:12. The clocks are printed so clearly that
telling the time to the minute is possible. When you've entered the times, play around with the show/hide buttons at the
bottom. For example, you could have just digital times showing, so that children can draw the clock hands on the faces, or
just analogue times, so they can write in the digital time. Alternatively, you could have both showing, then print the
worksheet on card to cut up and make a matching game.

Britlit
This site was designed for students learning English as a second language. However, the resources are also
great for children learning to read too. Scroll down to find the resource kits for different age groups. As an
example, the Jack and the Beanstalk resource kit contains flashcards, story sequencing activities, counting, masks and much
more.

Lots of craft activities on different topics. I particularly like the mini books which children can print
out, colour and staple together.

Canon 3D Papercraft
A large collection of free, colourful designs to print out, cut and fold. The simplest designs, such as the paper
aeroplanes, are fine for 5 year olds with a little help. Some of the more complicated models, such as the Chinese dragon
could take a dexterous adult a week to make! Good projects for older children and teens for the holidays. Younger ones will
love Craftown - you can print off houses, a fire station, trains, tracks and roads to make your own town. You can choose to
download a PDF either for A4 (Europe) or US letter-sized paper. Make sure you choose the right size to suit your
printer settings for best results. Some of the more complex designs have a separate PDF with the instructions.
